In April 2022, I obtained my degree with a thesis on the urban regeneration of the former industrial complex in Rifredi, Florence, under the supervision of Prof. Arch. Fabrizio Rossiprodi. The thesis initially explored the study and research on the subject of industrial archaeology, uncovering the history and reference icons from the 18th century to the present day.
The project aimed to breathe new life into the industrial complex and the neighborhood by providing services for the community.
Recently, I was invited by the candidate for the City Council of Florence, Giovanni Fittante, to participate in an event organized by @animafirenze2030 to present the project and propose solutions for the urban regeneration of the entire area.
The area, which covers 26,000 square meters at the outskirts of Florence and includes a former industrial plant of 8,000 square meters, has been abandoned for over 40 years, despite numerous attempts at redevelopment. It is currently in a state of degradation and neglect, constituting a true “urban void” in the Florentine outskirts.
The project, therefore, aims to redevelop the area and the building with the goal of creating a multifunctional center for the city and its citizens. It envisions various services, spaces, and activities that, by adopting criteria of environmental, economic, and social sustainability, can ensure the revival and maintenance of the area for years to come.
